Why Good Coaching Is More Than Counting Reps

Counting repetitions is one of the least important things a great coach does. Good coaching combines program design, observation, communication, judgment and relationship-building so the right work happens at the right time.
A COACH SEES WHAT THE SPREADSHEET CANNOT
The plan may say eight repetitions, but the coach sees how you move, how the load looks and whether today matches the assumptions behind the program.

FEEDBACK SHOULD BE USEFUL
More cues are not always better. Strong coaches identify the correction that matters most, explain it clearly and allow you to apply it.
TRUST IMPROVES DECISIONS
Members communicate fatigue, pain, stress and uncertainty more honestly when they believe the coach is listening. That information leads to better training choices.
Know the member and the program’s purpose.
Prepare the environment.
Notice changes.
Challenge without testing constantly.
Follow up when something needs attention.
At Leverage, coaching is the product. The program, the session and the relationship should all reflect that standard.
